Why doesn't Tomahawk do <x> like other media players?

Tomahawk works in a fundamentally different way than just playing local audio files. It uses the metadata about/from any song to find and play the best available version for each person based on what they have access to: from their local library, from online music lockers, from free streaming services like SoundCloud, and from paid streaming services like Spotify.

Among many other things, this creates scenarios where users with different music sources/services can share and listen along with each other.

If you are only looking to play locally stored downloads, there are better players for that. Our goal is much more ambitious - it is to break down all the silos of music and let users listen to anything, from anywhere, without having to know where the file lives.
